Money; not equal to happiness

Money will buy you a bed but not sleep, books but not brains, food but not an appetite, a house but not a home, medicine but not health, luxuries but not happiness, image but not character, and religion but not salvation.  You say, “Does that mean God doesn’t want me to have money?”  No, He will actually trust you with more money when you demonstrate that your trust is not in your money, but in Him alone, (See 1 Timothy 6:17).  The Bible teaches three things about money: (1) When you become a good steward of what you have, God will entrust you with more.  “Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.  The first one came and said, ‘Sir, your mina has earned ten more.’  ‘Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities’” (Luke 19:15-17 NIV).  (2) When your focus is on serving others, God will entrust you with more.  When Job took the focus off himself and began to pray for others, “The Lord…gave him twice as much as he had before” (Job 42:10 NIV).  (3) When you can walk away from material things to do God’s will, God will entrust you with more.  Abraham left the security of his home to fulfill god’s plan, and her ended up one of the world’s wealthiest men.  On the other hand, the rich young ruler said no to following Christ because the cost was too high (See Mark 10:17-22).  You ask, “What was the cost?”  EVERYTHING!

I don’t know if # 3 excites me or scares me, don’t get me wrong, it thrills me to walk away from material things to do God’s will, but what can He possibly entrust me more with…tends to boggle the mind.

How about YOU?  Thoughts?

I think God has blessed you with wealth and material things because of what is written in the first 2 scriptures. You have chosen to walk away from all this to give back now in his service. He is entrusting you with the hearts and lives of his most precious children, in a 3rd world country. Children of all ages! Who better to understand their poverty then someone who walked away from plenty. Who better to share the Love of Christ, then ones who are willing to give up EVERYTHING For the His cause. You have been a-part of this. Now you will enter in. What an honor!!
Matthew 7:13-14
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Love you Both

Great post! I would think that being unburdened with material things would provide a wonderful freedom. Especially when that freedom is used to do Kingdom work. Think of it this way (in your situation)... every "thing" you let go of here is actually added to your reward in heaven! Well, maybe not the exact same "thing", but I'd be willing to bet that it'll be a much-more "thing"!

Just make sure that a year from now while you're busy, busy with doing Kingdom work that you don't loose sight of the King!

Hugs!
